STATE FUNDING GUIDE
Maine has no science-of-reading statute; its current effort is the Maine State Reading and Math Action Plans (October 2025), which promote evidence-based reading instruction, K-5 literacy screening goals, and expanded educator training. The most recent direct literacy money was a one-time $10 million formula-based literacy grant round announced in January 2024, funded with federal emergency relief and usable for evidence-based literacy materials, professional learning, and coaching. No dedicated recurring state literacy fund identified; districts typically use federal Title I/IDEA plus general state aid.
