Dr. Maryanne Wolf
Dr. Maryanne Wolf is Director of the UCLA Center for Dyslexia, Diverse Learners, and Social Justice, and Professor-in-Residence at the UCLA Graduate School of Education. Her research on the biological and cognitive bases of reading spans over 30 years.
She is the author of five books including the acclaimed Proust and the Squid: The Story and Science of the Reading Brain and Reader, Come Home: The Reading Brain in a Digital World.
RAVE-O is the culmination of her research: a evidence based program designed to build every component of the reading brain, not just decoding.

The RAVE-O program
RAVE-O is a multi-component, reading intervention program for grades 1-5. The program drives gains in vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension through the POSSUM Approach (phonology, orthography, semantics, syntax, understanding, and morphology) and its integration with connected text, all in one classroom program. Launching a Middle School offering in Fall 2026.
RAVE-O complements existing structured literacy programs by expanding their focus beyond phonics and works alongside standardized testing. It gives teachers a complete built-in assessment system, differentiation tools, and frequent progress monitoring.
RAVE-O saw average effect sizes of .99 (Lovett et al, 2017) across 14 different measures when combined with other structured literacy programs.
