Core Words

MIM Words: Many Interesting Meanings (polysemy).

The first purpose of each unit is to introduce a group of Core Words, called MIM Words, and the first part of every lesson is to elicit the child's knowledge of these words and their many interesting means (polysemy). Every Core Word has a common English letter pattern, at least two or three possible meanings, and at least two grammatical functions.

Through hands-on activities, students learn how every Core Word connects to associated words. Unique to RAVE-O: the same words are encountered at three levels in every lesson, reinforcing the very connections the developing reading brain needs.

Our data indicate this approach generalizes to new polysemous words both after the intervention and a year later. No other program possesses such data.
